What exactly is an API call? 

An API call is a data retrieval from our API. This is done with an https request. The MetGIS servers then return a JSON file. To make data integration as easy as possible for you, some of our JSON files also contain weather data for several locations.

For which period do you offer weather data?

MetGIS currently offers weather data for up to 10 years in the past. Due to climate change, the use of older weather data for many applications (AI training, averaging and extreme value formation) makes little sense. However, if required, we are also happy to provide data beyond our currently posted availability periods.

What weather parameters do you offer?

Our historical weather databases comprise the following parameters: Temperature, precipitation, fresh snow, wind direction and strength, relative humidity, cloudiness, sunshine duration and global radiation. 

Other parameters are available on request. 

How do I receive a customer account, and what do I get out of it?

You set up a customer account when you order a free API key for developers, or when you make your first purchase in the web shop. Your customer account simplifies subsequent purchases, helps you manage your orders, allows you to reset your password and view access statistics.

How do I keep control over my API access?

With our API Monitoring Tool, accessible with your customer login, you can see your packages and statistics at a glance. You will also receive email alerts well before you have used up your ordered API calls.

How much does historical weather data cost?

Price of historical weather data depends on the amount of needed data (time resolution, data years, number of parameters, etc.). For details on the costs, please refer to our price overview.

What does MetGIS stand for?

"Met" stands for meteorology and "GIS" is the acronym for geographic information systems. The link between these two makes MetGIS weather forecasts so accurate. Weather data are combined with detailed terrain data. This improves our forecasts enormously, especially in difficult terrain. 

How did MetGIS arise?

It all began as a university-based research project. 10 years later experts from Europe, Russia, South America and Japan had developed the MetGIS algorithms. Several verification studies displayed a baffling accuracy. When more and more customers started knocking on the door MetGIS was founded.
